Tenney Mountain
BRENDAN GRANT FOUNDATION SKI / SNOWBOARD RACE

Held Sunday, 16 March 2003 in Plymouth, NH

Sunday, 16 March 2003:  A great day of skiing or snowboarding was had by all who attended the first Brendan Grant Foundation Ski/Snowboard Race held at Tenney Mountain in scenic Plymouth, NH.

The weather was magnificent, with bright sunshine and warm spring temperatures.  It was all smiles on the Giant Slalom race course, and at the raffle webpicture_0025.jpg (77377 bytes) and award ceremony that followed.  Skiers and snowboarders competed against each other and against themselves in an attempt to improve on their personal best time.

Some amazingly fast times were recorded.  The fastest webpcture_0050.jpg (37393 bytes)times were recorded in the male skiers division by some of the better known and more faithful of the ski area locals.  The overall fastest recorded times were by Dan Egan at 20.24 seconds and Garr Cochoran at 20.19, although both were edged out by Phil from Tenney Mountain staff who recorded a blistering time of an even 20.00 seconds.

Awards were provided for the fastest male and female skiers in six age brackets, and for the fastest male and female snowboarders.  Awards were also presented to the fastest parent/daughter and parent/son pairs.  This was truly a family event in the spirit of the Foundation activities.

The winners in the each category with the fastest speeds, starting first with the snowboarders, were as follows: webpicture_0045.jpg (43913 bytes)

Tenney Mountain is located near Plymouth State College, and the ski area is easily accessible to the greater New England region.  It provided a great venue for all who were able to attend and participate in the race, and for the other events held throughout the day.  It has always been a favorite of the Grant Family, and Brendan often skied here.  In fact, this was the last place that Brendan had last enjoyed the winter sport of skiing.

Later this year, we can all expect to be hearing more about Tenney Mountain.  This is because of a revolutionary new technology being implemented this year (that some are referring to as the ICM, or ice crunching machine).  This is expected to allow skiing, snowboarding and tubing throughout most of the year.  Can you believe it... in New England???  Let's wait and see how well it works, as it currently sounds very promising.  See the Tenney Mountain website for more information.

Overall, this first time winter event was a wonderful success, with lots of fun had by all who were able to make it.  Next year, we hope to have a similar event, and we hope to see you there!
