2004 BRENDAN GRANT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO ELIZABETH
MCEVOY
BELMONT - The third annual Brendan Grant Scholarships were awarded at the
Senior Student
Assembly at Belmont High School in Belmont, MA on Friday, 28 May 2004.
This year's scholarship recipient representing the Belmont High School
Varsity Softball team is team Captain Elizabeth McEvoy. Sincere
congratulations are extended to Elizabeth and her family.
The 2004 Belmont High School softball team has had a very successful
season, as perhaps best demonstrated by their earning a playoff berth for
the first time in approximately 30 years. Elizabeth has played an
important role in the team's success, with a future that is now looking
quite promising. Elizabeth has been a member of the varsity softball
team for the past 4 years and has been captain of her team two years
running. She has outstanding leadership skills and is always a team
player giving 100 percent on and off the field. In addition, she is
a varsity swimmer and basketball player, and her academic success is
represented by being a member of the National Honors Society and the
Belmontian Club. Elizabeth will be attending Harvard University in the fall of 2004.
The Brendan Grant Scholarship has been established in
memory of Brendan Grant, the accomplished 19-year old Belmont baseball player who was
fatally injured in an outfield collision during a Senior Babe Ruth game in June
200l. The two annual scholarships provides assistance to a senior member of
both the Belmont High School
varsity baseball team and the Belmont High School varsity softball team who will be attending an institution of higher learning after
graduation. The scholarship is intended to reward a player who possesses the same positive
spirit and leadership skills for which Brendan was known. Click
here for more information about the scholarship and about past recipients.
All contributions are greatly appreciated, and can be mailed to "The
Brendan Grant Scholarship" P.O. Box 184, Belmont, MA 02478-4024
