8th ANNUAL
BRENDAN GRANT GOLF TOURNAMENT
Held Sunday, 26 September 2010, in Plymouth, MA
on behalf of The Brendan Grant Foundation
Plymouth, MA: The good weather karma of previous years was once
again in abundance for Sunday morning (26/Sept/2010) at the 8th Annual
Brendan Grant Golf Tournament held at Souther’s Marsh Golf Course in
Plymouth, MA. It was a great day of golf and lots of competitive spirit on
behalf of The Brendan Grant Foundation. It was lots of fun day for all who
attended.
It was an absolutely perfect autumn day in the morning, and we were all on
our way home by the time clouds came in later in the afternoon. The 18 holes
of golf began at 8:00 am sharp with a shotgun start. Souther's Marsh is a
beautiful golf course located in the cranberry bogs of Plymouth MA, and was
voted the #1 public golf value in Massachusetts by the 2008-2010 by the New
England Golfguide, and best places to play by 2008/2009 Golf Digest (further
information on the course is available at www.southersmarsh.com).
Nine foursomes competed for a range of prizes. Trophies and prizes were
awarded to this year's top foursome and second place foursome. This year the
top spot was won by the foursome of Chris Dubay, Jonathon Asker, Paul
McCann, and Eric Johnson. Second place went to the foursome of Nancy
Perkins, Barry Perkins, Lorraine Carli, and Cacki Scifries. Both of these
foursomes finished at 8 under par, and the tie-breaker was determined by the
best scores on specific handicap holes. Honorable mention for the most
improved went to the returning foursome of Brian Walsh, Kim Fontes, Dawn
Cedrone and Elana McHugh.
The overall team results are as follows:
1) Chris Dubay, Jonathon Asker, Paul McCann, and Eric Johnson (8 under par)
2) Nancy Perkins, Barry Perkins, Lorraine Carli, and Cacki Scifries (8 under
par)
3) Bill Burke, Paul Crossman, Hank Carlson, and Rick Sterling (7 under par)
4) Brian Bishop, Bill Gibson, Scott Hanson and Tom Norton (5 under par)
5) Rick Freeman, Betsy Freeman, Billy Freeman, and Horace Greeley (4 under
par)
6) Bill Mello, Joe Sullivan, Geoff Carter, and Tom Whalen (3 under par)
7) Bob Winnett, Lynne Winnett, Mike Potvin, and Scott Brennan (2 under par)
8) Michael Grant, Casey Grant, Frank Shirley, Dave Tourigney (even with par)
9) Brian Walsh, Kim Fontes, Dawn Cedrone and Elana McHugh (6 over par)
Additional contests included the closest to the pin won for the females by
the Betsy Freeman at 19'-16" with Lorraine Carli the runner-up at 20'-10".
For the males the closet to the pin was won by Billy Freeman at 7'-6" with
Eric Johnson following at 12'-4". The longest drive was won by Betsy Freeman
followed by Lorraine Carli for the women, and Eric Johnson followed by Barry
Perkins for the men.
The course certainly has its share of challenges, with plenty of golf balls
finding their way into the cranberry bogs. The weather was great all morning
with lots of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. After completing 18
holes, everyone was able to relax and enjoy a barbeque lunch along with a
raffle. Our heartfelt thanks go to all who participated or helped in some
special way behind the scenes. We tip our hat to Lorraine Carli for her
efforts organizing this year's successful event.
We
had lots of great raffle items this year, and a special thanks goes to all
who provided prizes. It was a fun day of golf for all involved, and the
proceeds from this successful event go to benefit the various on-going
initiatives of The Brendan Grant Foundation. It’s a great day when we can
have a lot of fun with plenty of smiles, and at the same time provide a
tribute to those who await us on the other side. Many thanks to all, and
we're looking forward to another great round of golf next season!
