2011 BRENDAN GRANT SCHOLARSHIPs AWARDED TO MICHAEL VONA,
EMMA BROWN, AND IVAN LOZANO
BELMONT - The tenth annual Brendan Grant Scholarships were awarded at the
Senior Student
Assembly at Belmont High School in Belmont, MA on Tuesday, 31 May 2011.
The 2011 recipients are class of 2011 graduating Seniors Michael Vona,
Emma Brown, and Ivan Lozano.
A single scholarship was awarded in 2002 and 2003, and in 2004 it was
expanded to two annual scholarships. In 2008 the scholarships
were expanded from two to three recipients for a college-bound Senior from the Belmont High School
Varsity Baseball Team, Varsity Softball Team., and Varsity Wrestling Team.
The team affiliations for each recipient are Michael Vona representing baseball,
Emma Brown representing softball, and Ivan Lozano
representing wrestling. In the fall of 2011, Michael will be attending University
of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Emma will be attending Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute (RPI), and
Ivan will be attending Southern New Hampshire University. Sincere
congratulations are extended to Michael, Emma, Ivan and their families.
The Brendan Grant Scholarship has been established in
memory of Brendan Grant, the accomplished 19-year old Belmont baseball player who was
fatally injured in an outfield collision during a Senior Babe Ruth game in June
2001. The three annual scholarships provide assistance to a senior member of
the Belmont High School
varsity baseball, softball and wrestling teams who will be attending an institution of higher learning after
graduation. The scholarship is intended to reward a player who possesses the same positive
spirit and leadership skills for which Brendan was known. Click
here for more information about the scholarship and about past recipients.
All contributions to support these annual scholarship awards are greatly appreciated, and can be
made payable to and mailed to "The Brendan Grant Foundation", P.O. Box 184, Belmont, MA 02478-4024
